Auto, EV, Battery & Energy Assets | AssetBuilt

Auto, EV, battery & energy

This sector builds and decommissions capacity in the same quarter. Lines go into one plant while near-identical equipment comes out of another — sometimes in the same state. AssetBuilt works the second half of that cycle: valuing, marketing and selling the production assets that come out of automotive, electric vehicle, battery and energy facilities worldwide.

Capacity in, capacity out

Electrification has not moved in a straight line. Programmes are launched, re-scoped, paused and cancelled; gigafactories are announced, partially built and reassigned; Tier 1 suppliers retool for platforms that arrive late or not at all.

The result is an unusual market. Late-model, high-specification production equipment — much of it installed and commissioned, some of it never run — becomes available while demand for that same equipment is still rising.

For a buyer, that is capacity available now rather than on a twelve-to-eighteen-month build slot. For a seller, it is a narrow window in which specialised machinery still has a deep, motivated buyer base.

AssetBuilt has run this sector through both halves of the cycle, from the Canoo and Arrival asset sales out of Oklahoma City to current engagements covering Rivian surplus, R3 Lithium processing assets and the Aspen Aerogels manufacturing complex.

Specialised equipment holds its value while the technology is current and the buyer base is deep.

Both conditions have a shelf life. Timing is most of the recovery.

What we take to market

The equipment sets below move through our buyer base regularly. Most engagements combine several of them.

Cell

Cell and electrode manufacturing

Electrode coating and calendering lines, slitting, winding and stacking, electrolyte filling, sealing and cell assembly equipment.

Test

Formation, aging and test

Formation and aging systems, cyclers, battery and cell test benches, environmental and thermal chambers, laboratory and metrology equipment.

Env

Dry rooms and environmental systems

Dry room enclosures and dehumidification, HVAC and clean-space systems, process chillers, compressed air and gas handling.

Pack

Module, pack and assembly

Module and pack assembly lines, laser and ultrasonic welding, leak and end-of-line test, materials handling and conveyance.

Body

Stamping, body and finishing

Mechanical and hydraulic presses, transfer and progressive die systems, robotic welding cells, paint, coating and surface finishing.

Auto

Robotics and automation

Six-axis robots and controllers, vision and inspection systems, PLC and line control, AGV and conveyance, end-of-arm tooling.

Power

Electrical and plant infrastructure

Transformers, switchgear, substations and distribution, generators, boilers, cooling towers and plant utility systems.

Lab

Process, lithium and materials

Mixers, reactors, centrifuges, filter presses, stainless vessels, pumping and process systems from lithium and materials operations.

How a programme runs

Scope01

Scope and verify

Walk the floor, reconcile the asset register against what is physically installed, and establish specification, condition, run hours and what documentation exists.

Value02

Establish market value

Assets are valued against current demand in this sector rather than depreciation schedules — including an honest read on what has no secondary market.

Route03

Choose the route

Complete lines and high-value systems often go to targeted outreach or private treaty. Broadly marketable equipment goes to auction. Different assets, different channels.

Market04

Market globally

Direct solicitation of operators and integrators in this sector, supported by trade marketing, digital campaigns and our auction platforms.

Clear05

Sell, rig and clear

Buyer inspection access, rigging and removal scheduling, de-installation support, site clearance and a documented reconciliation of what sold and what it realized.
